In-depth guide

Fuel economy converter guide

Convert fuel economy across km/L, L/100km and MPG units. This tool is designed for fast local processing and practical day-to-day use.

Quick start

Paste input, review output instantly, then copy it for your workflow.

Input tips

Use one value per line for structured inputs. Common separators are handled gracefully.

Privacy

Processing runs in your browser tab for the MVP workflow, with no mandatory upload step.

When to use it vs alternatives

Use this converter when you need a quick value across metric, imperial, data, time, or other unit systems. Use domain-specific engineering, lab, or compliance software when tolerances, significant figures, or standards must be formally controlled.

Common pitfalls

  • Confirm the source unit before copying a result, especially when labels are similar across systems.
  • Rounding can matter for materials, shipping, science, and engineering calculations.
  • Check whether your context expects SI, IEC, US customary, imperial, or regional units.

Frequently asked questions

How is fuel economy calculated?

It divides distance travelled by fuel used. The tool supports both miles per gallon and litres per 100 km.

Why is a lower L/100km better but a higher MPG better?

They measure opposite things: L/100km is fuel used per distance (less is better), while MPG is distance per fuel (more is better).

Are US and UK gallons the same?

No. A UK (imperial) gallon is about 4.55 litres and a US gallon is about 3.79 litres, so UK MPG figures look higher for the same car.

How do I convert between MPG and L/100km?

They are inversely related. The tool converts automatically so you can compare figures quoted in either system.

What affects real-world economy?

Driving style, speed, load, tyre pressure and traffic all matter, so real figures are usually below lab ratings.

Is any data uploaded?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser.
